Elements
Allan Walker and Pat Packer
Mike Malone and Larry Jensen |
The next step for the Jensen Walker Band was Elements. Pat Packer who could play both guitar and bass and added lead and backup vocals was added to the mix. Pat had a double neck Gibson SG, acoustic guitar, 73 black Rickenbacker. He used Larry's 100 watt Ampeg amp for bass, It had a nice replacement altec 15. For his guitar work Pat used an old fender super reverb(blackface) with 4-10's,which he ran in stereo with a new (at that time) 50 watt hiwatt head. He also got a couple of Thiele single twelve cabs with it, that had english ATC speakers, good for lead or bass. Pat got the hiwatt from Bob Walker when he had the distributorship in Owen Sound. His bass setup was too big to haul around it was a big acoustic 300, with the 18" reflex. He was an accomplished bassist, songwriter and a talented guitarist and I assume still is. We just re-connected through this site. Mike Malone was a Keith Moon inspired drummer. He played clear Fibes drums which were and still are a rare sight. Adding much needed harmonies and occasional lead vocals Mike added percussion and rock drumming as needed. Element’s music shifted from folk rock to a rock format. Classics like “stairway to heaven”, “hand of fate”, “you can’t do that”, “highway 61” and “all along the watchtower” were nightly staples. Elements played Owen Sound, Barrie, and the northern circuit. It was on one of these tours that the band self imploded. Brandon Manitoba was involved. The band recorded some tracks at Byrdland Sound, near Tara Ontario. Music to come. |
